At St James we place a strong emphasis on developing our children and young people. You are a really important part of the church and we feel really privileged to work with you and help you grow in your faith.

Our goal for children’s ministry at St James is that all our children’s groups, activities and worship should be fun and friendly places where we can discover more about Jesus and what it means to follow Him.

We are really looking forward to getting to know you, so do come and see all that is going on!  Check out the tabs below for details.

PowerHouse is our Sunday morning programme for children and young people aged 0 to 18. PowerHouse is divided into 4 groups; Scramblers (for those who haven’t started school yet), Climbers (school years R-2), Explorers (school years 3-6) and Pathfinders (for those at secondary school). We meet during the 10.30 worship on Sunday mornings. Everyone usually meets together in the St Barnabas Centre then we go out to our groups for games, stories, crafts songs, discussions and lots of fun!

Each group is led by at least two adults and there are also opportunities for the young people to develop their leadership skills as young helpers.

New children are always welcome to come and join us – Just turn up and introduce yourself! When you come on a Sunday look out for adults wearing white PowerHouse name badges – they are the leaders for that week and will be able to tell you where to go and introduce you to other children in your group.

All Age Worship
On the first Sunday of every month we have All Age Worship at 10:30 in the St Barnabas Centre. We worship God, learn, develop our faith, pray for each other and have lots of fun together! We do all sorts of different things in All Age Worship. We have coffee & tea afterwards as well as before on All Age weeks so there’s plenty of opportunity to meet new friends. Come along and catch up with us!

Little Worship, a baby & toddler group, meets at 10am on Wednesday mornings in the Emmaus Centre during term time. Through songs, stories, play and arts & crafts activities, we gently introduce the children to God, praise, prayer and the Church environment. We are a welcoming and thriving group of parents, grandparents, carers and under-5s, who enjoy getting together for lively sessions full of friendship, fellowship and fun!

Little Worship normally follows the same format with a different theme each week. Once the group activities are finished, we bring out the toys so the children can play and the grown-ups can enjoy a chat over coffee.

New members with young children – from newborns to preschoolers – are always welcome; you don’t have to already come to church to join us!

Messy Church Logo
Messy Church is for everyone. It’s lots of fun and involves craft, stories, singing, food and of course mess! Come and join us on the second Saturday of each month from 4:00-5:30 at the Thorley Christian Centre on Vicerons Place.
